Airlines

The VisitMalta airlines page lists airlines that fly to Malta (including several low-cost carriers). The national carrier Air Malta flies to over 35 European destinations. It is not a member of one of the three major airline alliances, but has partnership arrangements with Lufthansa and Swiss Airlines, both part of Star Alliance.

Flight discounts

The Lufthansa Group, which includes Lufthansa, Swiss Airlines, and several others, does not participate in the alliance-wide discount program but offers one of its own. We have negotiated a special arrangment with the Lufthansa Group for discounted flights. These discounts are also valid for flights from North America on United and Air Canada, but are not valid for travel from Japan.

In addition, we have negotiated a special arrangement with Star Alliance for attendees who travel with other Star Alliance carriers (not in the Lufthansa Group). Note that although ANA participates in this program, Japanese regulations prevent them from offering a discount. Discounts from Japan are available on Turkish Airlines and Air New Zealand.

Instructions for how to obtain discounts from both programs are outlined below.

This will open an online booking platform that will automatically calculate the discount offered or provide you with an even better offer if another promotional fare is available.

NOTE: Pop-ups must be enabled otherwise the booking platform window will not open.

These promotional fares are also available through your IATA / ARC travel agent. Travel agents can obtain ticketing instructions by sending an email to lufthansa.mobility@dlh.de and providing the access code as a reference.

Airport transfers

The conference hotel is located 10.8 km from Malta International Airport (airport code MLA). The simplest way to get there is to take a taxi. But feel free to send your flight number and arrival time to the General Chairs. If enough people are scheduled to arrive at the same time we may arrange a group transfer, and in any case we can let you know about others arriving at the same time so that you can arrange to share a cab.

Note too that the conference hotel is offering a complimentary arrival transfer from the airport to the hotel for attendees who book from the group block by January 16, 2017.

Visas

Although most FC attendees will likely not need a visa, nationals of some countries do require a visa to travel to the Schengen area, of which Malta is part. Information is available from the Central Visa Unit.
